Thorpe Park's new ride has been shrouded in mystery for months. A series of cryptic clues and mysterious announcements have led to unprecedented levels of internet conjecture. Bloggers and forum-fans across the globe have all been furiously speculating, painstakingly analysing every last scrap of information to try and understand the nature of the mysterious "Project Dylan".
This morning, Thorpe Park's most revealing announcement to date finally shed some light on the new coaster. When it opens in spring 2009 "Project Dylan" (the working title of the new coaster), will be named "SAW - The Ride". It will be the "scariest ride in the world" and it will be based on the popular super-gory horror film series, SAW. The SAW series was produced by Lionsgate films and they have enjoyed continuous popularity since the first SAW film was released in 2004.
With a beyond vertical drop of 100º from a breathtaking height of 100 feet, SAW - The Ride will have the steepest freefall drop in the world. Determined to offer a unique experience to park guests, Saw - The Ride will also include a heavily themed queueing area designed to immerse guests in the terrifying world of 'Jigsaw', the film's spooky villian.
Thorpe Park's new ride will be located next to Colossus and Samurai and it has been designed to look like an abandoned sawmill. As well as the spine-chilling queueing experience, Saw - The Ride has a 100ft vertical lift, a 100º drop, three inversions, and a terrifying indoor section which accounts for 30% of total ride time.
